As the first supreme leader in China who visited WHO, President XI Jin-ping attended the presentation ceremony of a bronze statue of acupuncture figure to WHO by China together with Margaret Chan, the Secretary-general of WHO, and unveiled the bronze acupuncture statue. This presentation has a profound meaning.

Bronze acupuncture statue was founded in Tiansheng five years in ancient Song Dynasty of China (1027 AD). At that time, acupuncture-moxibustion therapy prevailed in China. In order to avoid the mistake of locating clinical acupoint, the medical officer WANG Wei-yi defined the acupoint location and locating method, and completed three volumes of Tóngrén Shūxué Zhēnjiŭ Tújīng (《铜人腧穴针灸图经》, Illustrated Classic of Acupoints on the Bronze Figure). Then, under the support of the government, two bronze acupuncture statue were cast, which were known as Tiansheng bronze statue. By taking the standard height of man at that time as the criterion, Tiansheng bronze statue stood naturally in a positive status, and was composed of front and back cast parts, with the five viscera and six bowels inside the body cavity. 657 acupoints and 354 acupoint names were marked on the whole body. All acupoints communicated with the body, which was not only used for finding acupoints, but also can be used for acupuncturist examination. In order to facilitate the practitioners and common people to learn acupuncture knowledge, WANG Wei-yi engraved the contents of Illustrated Classic of Acupoints on the Bronze Figure on the stone monument which was set up under the porch of Renji palace of Daxiangguo Temple in Kaifeng City, Henan Province, the capital of China at that time. Illustrated Classic of Acupoints on the Bronze Figure, bronze acupuncture statue and stone monument with classic were the three kinds of expression forms of acupoint standard of acupuncture-moxibustion. The bronze acupuncture statue were fuzzy with unclear writing in Ming Dynasty, and a new bronze acupuncture statue was cast in Zhengtong eight years (1443 AD) which was known as Zhengtong bronze statue. Zhengtong bronze statue was lost after chaos caused by war, and a new one was cast again in Qing Dynasty which are collected in National Museum of China now. The bronze statue presented to WHO was elaborated by imitating the one in National Museum of China.

Undoubtedly, acupuncture-moxibustion from China is an important member of the family of traditional medicine in the world. The countries with ancient civilization have their own traditional medicine. Compared with them, traditional Chinese medicine may not have a long history, but occupies an important position in current social medical system. According to the survey made by WHO, among the 194 member countries, 103 have approved the use of acupuncture-moxibustion; laws and regulations have been established in Australia, Hungary and other 29 countries and regions, and acupuncture-moxibustion have been included in the medical insurance system in New Zealand, Switzerland and other 18 countries and regions, which indicates that the contribution of acupuncture-moxibustion from China to human health is increasing.

The bronze acupuncture statue from China stands in silence in the headquarters of WHO, conveys the cognitive concept of life contained in the ancient TCM acupuncture-moxibustion which is full of vitality, and spreads light of wisdom of Chinese nation. It is also shown that China is willing to contribute acupuncture-moxibustion to the world, making it contribute to all mankind.
