简介Introduction:

    The National Acupuncture Union of Indonesia (Persatuan Akupunkturis Seluruh Indonesia abbreviated as PAKSI) was established since 6th of December 1986 and was supported by Ministry of Health, Ministry of National Education, and Ministry of Internal Affairs. The goal of PAKSI is to develop Acupuncture as a treatment which can be applied in Indonesia in line with the culture and physical nature of Indonesia, through programs of public services, educations and trainings, and researches, based upon Indonesian Five Basic Philosophy (Pancasila). Basic Constitution (UUD 1945), Code of Ethics and Oaths of Indonesian Acupuncture Practitioners. The members of PAKSI consist of Medical Doctors and Non Medical Acupuncture Practitioners who have pass the competency examination for acupuncture. The Boards of PAKSI consist of are Central Board of Trustees, 19 Area Board of Trustees or Chapter at the Area/Province, and 86 Branch Board of Trustees at the Branch/City.

    In year 1991, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PAKSI and The Center of Research and Development for Health Service, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia (Puslitbangyankes Depkes RI) established The Institution of Health Research and Development for Acupuncture Services (LP3A) located at Surabaya, East Java.

    There are many regulations on acupuncture in Indonesia that supported by PAKSI:

    A. Health Minister Rulings on 12th of November 1996 about “The Utilization of Acupuncture in Health Service Institution. The essential points are :

    1. The Traditional Acupuncture Practitioners are permitted to be carried out in any health institution, as an alternative medicine.   
    2. Acupuncture treatments are permitted to be done by qualified health service personnel and other personnel only, with sufficient skill with proper education and training in acupuncture.
  
    B. Health Minister Decision on 24th of July 2003 about The Provision of Traditional Medicine. The essential points are :

    1. The Categorization of Traditional Medicine in Indonesia consist of
 Traditional Medicine based on physical manual skill consist of  Acupuncture, Acupressure, Tuina, Massage, etc
 Traditional Medicine based on herbal medicine consist of Simplicia, Indonesian herbs, China herbs, Indian herbs, etc
 Traditional Medicine based on Supra Natural Power consist of Inner power for healing, Meditation, Voodoo, Mysticism, etc
 Traditional Medicine based on Religious Miracles consists of Moslem, Budha, Catholic’s power for healing, etc.
    2. The guy who has passed the Competency Examination from the proper of Professional Organization in Acupuncture (PAKSI) can be provided with a Acupuncture Practice License, and subsequently permitted to provide private practice in Indonesia.

    C. Health Minister Decision on 29th of August 2003 about Acupuncture Health Personel. The essensial points are 
    • An Expert Acupuncture Practitioner is defined as any person who has gone through and fully passed the Diploma III Acupuncture Examination, as officially acknowledged by the government, per relevant standing requirements.
    • The expert Acupuncture Practitioners are categorized into the Physical Therapy Group.

 PAKSI have MOUs with Xiamen University, Guangzhou University, Beijing University of TCM, Korean Acupuncture & Moxibustion Assoc, and Guangdong Provincial Assoc of Acup & Moxibustion 

 PAKSI regularly conduct International Seminar & Symposium, include The WFAS 2006 International Symposium of Acupuncture in Bali.
 
 PAKSI in collaboration with Indonesian Government has made some regulations and activities as follows:
    a. Standard National Competency for Acupuncture Practitioners
    b. Guidelines of Acupuncture Service
    c. Guidelines of Acupuncture courses in basic training (500 hours), training of acupuncture trainers (50 hours), training of acupuncture examiners (50 hours), training of acupuncture assessors (50 hours), and training of acupuncture master trainers ( 50 hours)
